Order flowersKaitaia, a Far North District town of about 6,170 people, is the last major town before Cape Reinga and Ninety Mile Beach. The name Kaitāia means 'ample food' – fitting for a district where avocado orchards spread through the area north of town and the country's northernmost vineyard is nearby. If you are sending flowers this far north, a bit of planning goes a long way.

Kaitaia Hospital at 29 Redan Road is the local public hospital and health centre; its Health NZ page gives visiting hours as 11am to 8pm. An older Northland DHB page (archived in 2010) stated: "Your flowers will be delivered to you as soon as they arrive." The current page for Kaitaia says nothing on flowers, though the same sentence is still used today for Whangārei Hospital in the same district.
Include the patient's full name and ward, and if you are unsure, check with the ward. See our Kaitaia Hospital page.
Many recipients live outside the town on rural roads. Rural addresses use "RD" plus a number where the suburb would normally go, and the town on the address is where the delivery round is based. Rural addresses (RD numbers) can take longer, and NZ Post no longer delivers parcels to most rural addresses on Saturdays. Summers are warm and winters wet and mild, with rain peaking from May to September – add a phone number and notes about a sheltered place to leave flowers.
There are five marae within 10 km of Kaitāia, of Te Rarawa, Ngāti Kahu and Ngāi Takoto. If a loss is being marked at a tangihanga, ask the whānau what is appropriate; our tangihanga guide explains what to bring and write.
Kaitaia Cemetery on Queens View Road was extended onto a 2,200 m² block donated by a local resident, adding room for about 30 burial plots and 40 ash berms. Funeral flowers usually go to the funeral home or the family.
Claud Switzer Residential Care at 71 South Road provides aged residential care in Kaitaia; use the resident's full name and the home's name on the order. And if you are writing to someone proud of local history: the Treaty of Waitangi was signed at Kaitaia on 28 April 1840, at missionary William Puckey's home. More Northland towns are on our Northland region page.
Put the recipient’s ward, room or the funeral director’s name on the order so the florist can find them.
Busy days book out early, so order ahead for Kaitaia.
