Order flowersKumeū lies about 25 km north-west of Auckland City Centre and has grown into one urban area with neighbouring Huapai, with about 8,270 residents together. Fruit came first: in the early 1910s developers named Huapai from Māori words to mean 'Good Fruit' and planted about 2,000 hectares of apple and pear orchards, and in 1932 Huapai had New Zealand's first orchard growing the Hayward kiwifruit. Croatian families started making wine here in the early 1940s, and the area is now known for its Chardonnay and Sauvignon blanc.

The district is popular for lifestyle block farming and equestrian pursuits, so many addresses are on rural roads rather than suburban streets. Rural addresses use "RD" and a Rural Delivery number in place of a suburb, and the town on the address is where the rural round is based – not always where the property is.
The Kumeu Agricultural and Horticultural Society's show has been a major annual event since 1921 and is one of the largest annual shows in the Southern Hemisphere, held on the second weekend of March on a 34-hectare showground. The 2027 show is on 13–14 March, with livestock, sheep shearing and equestrian competitions and horticulture and baking entries. Flowers make a nice way to congratulate a prize-winner. For a delivery that weekend, order early and send on a weekday if you can. The same showgrounds host the Auckland Folk Festival, a four-day event of music, dancing and workshops generally held over the last weekend in January.
St Chad's Anglican Church in Huapai was established in 1925, and the Kumeū Catholic Church dates from 1915, built on land donated by Martin Lovich. For a funeral, send flowers to the funeral home, the church or the family; our funeral flower guide has wording ideas. For deliveries to the city, see our Auckland page; nearby Riverhead has its own page, and the Auckland region overview lists the rest.
Busy days book out early, so order ahead for Kumeū-Huapai.
