Sending flowers to Helensville (Te Awaroa)

Helensville, Te Awaroa, was founded as a kauri timber settlement in 1862. Its name comes from 'Helen's Villa', the house of settler John McLeod. Today about 3,540 people live in the town, on the southern Kaipara within the Auckland region, about 20 km north of the Kumeū wine-producing area. Here is what helps when you send flowers here.

New babies at the Helensville Birthing Centre

Helensville District Health Trust at 1 Porter Crescent runs the Helensville Birthing Centre and Kaipara Medical Centre. It has no emergency department. Flowers for a new mother are a lovely gesture, but ask the family first whether the birthing centre welcomes them, or send them to the home a day or two after the birth, when they can be enjoyed for longer.

Craigweil House in Parakai

The hot springs at Parakai, 2 km north-west of Helensville and fed by geothermal mineral water, are the town's principal tourist attraction. Across the road from the hot pools, Craigweil House Home and Hospital at 143 Parkhurst Road, Parakai, offers rest home and hospital care, including palliative care. Note that it is in Parakai, not Helensville itself, so use the Parakai address. For palliative care, a small, lightly scented arrangement is usually best; ring the facility if in doubt.

Show day in February

The Helensville A&P Show has run since 1900 and is one of the biggest one-day shows in the north. The next show is on Saturday 27 February 2027. If you are congratulating a ribbon winner, flowers to their home that week will be welcome. Many recipients around Helensville live on rural roads with RD addresses, which can take longer; NZ Post stopped Saturday parcel deliveries to most rural addresses in 2024, so aim for a weekday.

Remembering someone in Helensville

Helensville Cemetery is on Wishart Road, about 1 km from the town centre. St Matthew's Anglican Church was established in 1879 as the first church in the southern Kaipara and was rebuilt as a larger church in 1927. For a funeral, send flowers to the funeral home or the family rather than the cemetery. Our sympathy flower guide explains the customs. For other towns nearby, see Kumeū-Huapai or our Auckland region page.

Kauri town history

Helensville grew from a kauri timber settlement founded in 1862, and St Matthew's, established in 1879, was the first church in the southern Kaipara. If you are sending flowers for a church wedding or service, give the church name and the time of the service so the flowers arrive beforehand.
