Sending flowers to Kaitaia Hospital
Kaitaia Hospital, at 29 Redan Road, is the rural hospital for the Far North. If you are a long way from Kaitaia and want to send flowers to a patient, here is what we know about how the hospital handles them.
Order by 2 pm on weekdays (11 am Saturdays) for same-day delivery in many areas
- Ward rules quoted from the hospital
- Name and ward on the card
- Local florists deliver the flowers

Flowers are delivered to the patient as soon as they arrive. CAVEAT: the hospital-specific wording is only on the old Northland DHB page archived in 2010; the current Health NZ page for this hospital says nothing, but the identical sentence is still on the current Health NZ page for Whangārei Hospital (same district).
“Flowers Your flowers will be delivered to you as soon as they arrive.”
An old but friendly rule
The former Northland DHB page for Kaitaia Hospital, as archived in June 2010, has stated: "Flowers Your flowers will be delivered to you as soon as they arrive." The current Health NZ page for the hospital does not mention flowers.
The same sentence is still used today on the Health NZ page for Whangārei Hospital, in the same district, so the approach in Northland seems to be welcoming. Still, as the Kaitaia wording is so old, check with the ward before sending. The hospital's number is 09 408 9180.
Ordering from a distance
- Give the florist the patient's full name and the ward, if you know it.
- Use the street address: Kaitaia Hospital, 29 Redan Road, Kaitaia 0410.
- Order early in the day; weekend and public-holiday delivery is limited in many areas.
If the patient is going home soon, a delivery to their house may be better. Rural Far North addresses with an RD number can take longer to reach.
Visiting hours at Kaitaia Hospital
Visiting hours at Kaitaia Hospital are 11am to 8pm every day. If you bring flowers yourself, ask the nurses at the ward desk before you take them in.
Visiting in person also lets you see how much space there is by the bed. If the patient is in a shared room, a small posy or a single stem is often more practical than a large bouquet, and you can always send a bigger arrangement home once they are discharged.
Flowers that suit a ward
Keep it compact and easy: a small arrangement in its own container, with lightly scented flowers if the room is shared. In summer, our guide on making flowers last in a Kiwi summer is worth a look. For home deliveries in the town, see flower delivery in Kaitaia.
What is on the Redan Road site
Health NZ lists these services at Kaitaia Hospital:
- a 24/7 Accident and Medical department (not a full emergency department)
- a primary birthing unit for uncomplicated pregnancies
- a GP clinic for enrolled patients and outpatient services
- surgical theatres, endoscopy and a day-stay unit
- laboratory, radiology, physiotherapy and occupational therapy
If the patient is in the birthing unit, check with the ward before sending flowers.
Getting there and facilities
Local taxis and the Kaitaia Bus About Town (Monday to Friday) are listed, along with a shuttle bus between Kaitaia Hospital and Whangārei Hospital, return, Monday to Friday. Sandhills Café is open 8am to 3pm on weekdays, and there is a chapel on the lower ground floor. Whānau House accommodation is on the grounds, and free Wi-Fi is available.
Phone numbers
The general number is 09 408 9180. After hours, Ka Ora Telecare is on 0800 252 672. Dial 111 in an emergency.
