Order flowersWaipawa is described as New Zealand's oldest inland European settlement. The township was originally called Abbotsford, after early settler Frederick Abbot, when it was sold in 1859. It lies on the northern bank of the Waipawa River, a tributary of the Tukituki, and is the second-largest town in Central Hawke's Bay – 7 km north-east of Waipukurau and 46 km south-west of Hastings, in the Hawke's Bay region. About 2,430 people live in the urban area (June 2025 estimate), and the town holds the main office of the Central Hawke's Bay District Council.

Waipawa has no hospital. Central Hawke's Bay Health Centre at 1 Cook Street, Waipukurau, about 7 km away, has 6 inpatient beds but no emergency department. We have not found a published flower rule for it, so check with the ward before sending.
The nearest emergency department is at Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, 398 Omahu Road, Hastings. Health New Zealand's intensive care page there says do not bring flowers; for other wards, check with the ward before sending. Include the patient's full name and ward on the order.
There is no rest home in Waipawa in our data; the district's residential care providers are in Waipukurau: Mt Herbert House at 50 Mount Herbert Road, and Woburn Waipukurau at 7 Holyrood Terrace. For a resident, choose a compact arrangement in a vase and include their full name. See our Waipukurau page for more.
For a funeral, send flowers to the funeral director or service venue, with the full name of the person who has died and the date and time of the service. Our funeral flower etiquette guide helps with the card.
Waipawa has two Ngāti Kahungunu marae: Mataweka Marae (Nohomaiterangi meeting house) and Tapairu Marae (Te Rangitahi or Te Whaea o te Katoa meeting house). If you are sending condolences for a tangihanga, read our guide to tangihanga and condolences first.
For farm addresses around Waipawa, use the RD number exactly as the recipient writes it, add a phone number, and allow extra time.
Put the recipient’s ward, room or the funeral director’s name on the order so the florist can find them.
Busy days book out early, so order ahead for Waipawa.
