Order flowersAshhurst is a town of about 3,350 people under the Ruahine Range, beneath Wharite Peak, about 14 km north-east of central Palmerston North. Its Māori name, Raukawa, comes from a native aromatic plant (Pseudopanax edgerleyi) once used to make scent – a nice story for a town receiving flowers.

Ashhurst is part of Palmerston North City, and its nearest hospital is in the city. Palmerston North Hospital, at 50 Ruahine Street, Roslyn, has a 24-hour emergency department. Most of its wards are flower free, so check with the ward before sending or bringing flowers; sending them to the patient's home in Ashhurst after discharge is often the better choice.
No aged residential care home is listed in Ashhurst itself. Homes in Palmerston North include Bupa Riverstone Care Home (243 Napier Road, Kelvin Grove) and Radius Peppertree (107 Roberts Line, Kelvin Grove). Include the resident's full name and room on the order.
Ashhurst Domain is a large multipurpose park with a camping ground, a lookout to the wind farm, a picnic area, a playground, walking tracks, a dog area and Ashhurst Cemetery. The main entrance is off Napier Road, heading east toward the Manawatū River. Ashhurst Cemetery is one of four Palmerston North City Council cemeteries, with Bunnythorpe, Kelvin Grove and Terrace End, whose burial records can be searched online back to 1871. Kelvin Grove Cemetery is in Palmerston North. Our sympathy flower guide explains what to send for a funeral.
The Manawatū Gorge road has been closed since April 2017; the road link east from Ashhurst now uses the four-lane Manawatū Tararua Highway. Rural addresses around the town use RD numbers, which can take longer; copy the address exactly and add a phone number. McCrae's Bush, an area of mostly native bush off The Terrace and River Road, is home to the RECAP Noel Olssen Orchard.
Ashhurst is about 14 km from central Palmerston North and comes under Palmerston North City Council, but it is a town of its own. Write the address exactly as the recipient does, add a phone number, and allow extra time for rural properties, which can take longer.
Put the recipient’s ward, room or the funeral director’s name on the order so the florist can find them.
Busy days book out early, so order ahead for Ashhurst.
