Flowers delivered in Stratford, Taranaki

Stratford's Māori name, Whakaahurangi, means 'to look to the sky'. The town is the seat of the Taranaki region, with an urban population estimated at 6,430 in June 2025. It is the only place in New Zealand with a glockenspiel, which plays Romeo and Juliet's balcony scene at 10am, 1pm, 3pm and 7pm, and nearly all its streets are named after Shakespearean characters. A town that romantic deserves a few flowers – here is how to send them.

Shakespeare in April, gardens in spring

The Stratford Shakespeare Festival is held at venues across the town every April. For a performer or organiser, flowers after opening night are a time-honoured gesture.

In spring, Taranaki's garden festivals take over. In 2026 the Centuria Taranaki Garden Festival and the Taranaki Fringe Garden Festival both run from 30 October to 8 November. Te Popo Garden is a short drive from Stratford, and King Edward Park in town has a Shakespeare mural by Taranaki artist Elyse Lewis and a swing bridge. Stratford also has a place in New Zealand's flower history: nurserywoman and iris hybridiser Emily Stevens (1900–1967) was born in or lived in the town.

Flowers for residents in aged care

Stratford has two aged residential care providers in our data: Heritage Lifecare Elizabeth R Lifecare & Village at 30 Elizabeth Grove, and Maryann Home and Hospital at 59 Brecon Road. A small arrangement in a vase, or a potted plant, is easier for staff and residents to manage than a large bouquet. Include the resident's full name and room or wing if you know it, and check with the facility if the resident is unwell. Our guide to hay fever and flowers lists lower-pollen choices.

Kopuatama Cemetery

Kopuatama Cemetery is about 4.5 km from the centre of Stratford along Regan Street (SH43) towards Ohura. It holds Commonwealth war graves from both world wars – seven from 1914–1918 and seven from 1939–1945. For a funeral, send flowers to the funeral director or the service venue, with the full name of the person who has died and the date and time of the service. If you are planning a tribute for Anzac Day, see our Anzac Day poppies and wreaths guide.

Practical delivery notes

  • With so many Shakespearean street names, double-check the spelling of the street before you order.
  • Add the recipient's phone number so the florist can arrange a handover.
  • For farm addresses, use the RD number exactly as the recipient writes it, and allow extra time.
