Order flowersAbout 9,540 people live in Matamata, a Matamata-Piako District town at the foot of the Kaimai Ranges, with State Highway 27 running through the centre. The district is known for thoroughbred horse breeding and training, and the Hobbiton Movie Set lies about 10 km south-west of town on the Alexander family farm, where guided tours began in 2002. Here is the local detail that helps a bouquet arrive well.

Eldernet lists three care homes in Matamata:
Give the resident's full name and room on the order. A compact arrangement in its own vase is easier for staff than loose stems.
With so many studs and farms around the town, a good share of Matamata addresses are rural. These use 'RD' and a number, written without dots or extra spaces, followed by the mailtown and postcode. The mailtown is where the delivery round is based, which is not always the nearest town, so copy the address exactly as the recipient writes it. Rural addresses can take longer, and weekend delivery is limited in many areas; NZ Post stopped Saturday parcel deliveries to most rural addresses in 2024.
Matamata Cemetery is on Peria Road and is run by Matamata-Piako District Council; its gates are open from 8am to 6pm daily. Flowers for a funeral are best sent to the funeral home or the family home rather than the cemetery. Our sympathy flower guide explains what to send and how to word the card.
In 1865 Josiah Firth leased a large area of land after negotiating with Ngāti Hauā leader Wiremu Tamihana. Firth Tower, built in 1882 as a lookout, is closed because of earthquake damage, but the museum beside it opens Thursday to Monday, 10am to 4pm. The old railway station has served as the 'Railside by the Green' community centre since 2002.
Matamata has a mild climate with about 1,071 mm of rain a year; the record high is 32.8 °C in January and the record low −5.7 °C in July, so cold winter nights are part of local life.
We have no hospital listed in Matamata. If the person is at Waikato Hospital in Hamilton, flowers are not allowed in Critical Care (ICU and HDU); no rule is published for other wards, so check with the ward before sending. Nearby towns are on our Waikato region page.
Put the recipient’s ward, room or the funeral director’s name on the order so the florist can find them.
Busy days book out early, so order ahead for Matamata.
