Flower delivery in Cambridge, Waikato

Cambridge, Kemureti, is a town of about 22,700 people on the Waikato River, roughly 24 km south-east of Hamilton. It was established in 1864, when the 3rd Regiment of the Waikato Militia were settled there, and takes its name from Prince George, Duke of Cambridge. Today it calls itself 'The Town of Trees & Champions' and was named New Zealand's Most Beautiful Large Town in October 2019. Here is what helps when you send flowers to someone here.

Studs, dairy farms and Te Miro-style RD addresses

Cambridge is known as the equine capital of New Zealand because of its thoroughbred studs, and the equine industry provides more than 600 jobs in the Waikato. Dairy farming provides more than one in 10 jobs in Waipā District. So plenty of recipients live on farms and lifestyle blocks outside town, and their addresses use an RD number. Since January 2024, rural addresses also carry a 'major name' after the locality, and the published example is a Cambridge one: 413 Aspin Road, Te Miro, Cambridge 3496. RD numbers and postcodes did not change.

Rural addresses can take longer, and NZ Post stopped Saturday parcel deliveries to most rural addresses in 2024, so aim for a weekday delivery. Add a phone number and a note about the gate.

Autumn Festival in March, Christmas parade in December

The town's calendar gives you a few natural moments for flowers:

  • February – the Keyte Watson Polo Tournament at Leamington.
  • March – the Cambridge Autumn Festival, an arts event with exhibitions, an art market and open studios. The 2027 festival is scheduled for 12 to 21 March.
  • August – the Battle of the Bridges rugby and netball competition.
  • December – the Christmas Festival with a town parade. Our guide to a Kiwi summer Christmas in flowers has ideas, and ordering well ahead of the Christmas rush is wise.

With Cambridge High School and St Peter's School both in town, the end of the school year is another time people send flowers; see our graduation flowers guide.

Warm Waikato summers, frosty July nights

Cambridge has a mean daily maximum of 24.1 °C in January and a mean daily minimum of just 3.8 °C in July. It gets about 1,149 mm of rain a year, and June and July are the wettest months. In summer, ask for flowers to be handed over rather than left in the sun; in winter, a phone number on the order helps the driver avoid leaving a bouquet out on a cold, wet doorstep.

Hautapu, Leamington and Cambridge funerals

Cambridge has two cemeteries run by Waipā District Council. The first burial recorded on a headstone at Hautapu dates from 1866. At Leamington (Cambridge West), a memorial marks eleven men of the colonial forces who died after the militia settlement. Cambridge Funerals is at 2 Albert Street. Flowers for a funeral are normally sent to the funeral home or the family, not to the cemetery. Our sympathy flower guide explains what to send and what to write.

For an older relative in care, Alden Cambridge Oakdale is at 58 Tennyson Street. Include the person's full name, and the room number if you know it.

Patients at Waikato Hospital

We have no hospital listed for Cambridge itself. If the person you are thinking of is at Waikato Hospital in Hamilton, note that flowers are not allowed in Critical Care (ICU and HDU). No rule is published for other wards, so check with the ward before sending.
