Order flowersTemuka sits on State Highway 1, 15 km north of Timaru and 142 km south of Christchurch, at the centre of a sheep and dairy farming district. About 4,760 people live here. The town was first called Wallingford, and its name is a shortened form of Te Umu-kaha, thought to mean 'fierce ovens' (Māori earth ovens for cabbage tree roots) or 'strong current'.

Arowhenua Marae, the marae of Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua (Ngāi Tahu), lies just south of Temuka and includes the Te Hapa o Niu Tireni meeting house. A native plant nursery at the marae grows seedlings used to restore dryland Canterbury Plains ecosystems. If you would like to send something native, our native flowers guide has ideas, and our tangihanga guide helps if you are sending condolences to a marae.
Temuka Cemetery at 2 Murray Street is run by Timaru District Council. It offers burials, ashes interments and a children's area, and it is open during daylight hours. Funeral flowers are normally sent to the funeral home or the family, while a small posy can be taken to the grave later. St Peter's Anglican Church, built in 1899, seats 300 and was damaged in the 2010 Canterbury earthquakes. See our sympathy flower guide for wording ideas.
Enliven Wallingford Home at 20 Cass Street, Andrewville, provides aged residential care. Include the resident's full name and room, and choose an arrangement in its own vase.
We have no hospital listed in Temuka. If the person is at Timaru Hospital, flowers are delivered to patients as they arrive. Put the patient's full name and ward on the order.
With farms all around the town, many recipients have RD addresses. Write 'RD' and the number without dots, followed by the mailtown and postcode, exactly as the recipient does. Rural addresses can take longer, and NZ Post stopped Saturday parcel deliveries to most rural addresses in 2024, so a weekday is the safer choice. In town, the Temuka Domain has been redeveloped, and the council has been adding new gardens and walkways.
Temuka was once called Wallingford, and the name lives on at Enliven Wallingford Home on Cass Street. If you are sending flowers to a resident there, write the home's full name and the resident's room so there is no confusion with the town itself.
Put the recipient’s ward, room or the funeral director’s name on the order so the florist can find them.
Busy days book out early, so order ahead for Temuka.
