Flower delivery to Methven

Methven is a Mid Canterbury town of about 2,170 people at 320 m on the edge of the Canterbury Plains, between the North Branch of the Ashburton River and the Rakaia River. It is a rural service centre for nationally significant arable land, where good soils support seed production, cereal crops and livestock. Mount Hutt ski field, opened in 1973, is about half an hour's drive away.

Snow days and delivery timing

Snow falls on a few days each winter, between June and August. On those days roads can be slow, so if your flowers are for a winter date, order early and add a phone number. Many recipients live on farms with RD addresses; write them exactly as given. Rural addresses can take longer, and weekend delivery is limited in many areas.

Methven Central

Methven Central at 1 Methven Chertsey Road is the residential aged-care home in Methven, with rest home care and an on-site retirement village. Include the resident's full name and room or unit on the order. If the person lives in the on-site retirement village rather than the care home, say so on the order and give their unit number, so the flowers go to the right door.

Ashburton Hospital, 34 km south at 28 Elizabeth Street in Ashburton, has no emergency department. The former Canterbury DHB has stated that flowers and potted plants are not allowed in the Ashburton community maternity unit; other wards were not covered. See our Ashburton Hospital page, and check with the ward before sending.

Rodeo, show and rhododendrons

The Methven Rodeo is held every October, and attendances can exceed 6,000. The 111th Methven Show (A&P) is on Saturday 20 March 2027. Mount Hutt Forest, about 12.5 km from town, has short walks including the Rhododendron Walk. Our seasonal flower calendar shows what to send through the year.

Methven Cemetery

Methven Cemetery is on the Methven Chertsey Road, 500 m from the town centre. It has a returned services area as well as areas for burials and ash interments, and its earliest burial record dates from 1883. All Saints Anglican Church at 1 Chapman Street was built in 1880. Our sympathy flower guide explains what to send for a funeral.

Ski season visitors

With Mount Hutt about half an hour away, Methven fills with visitors in winter. If your recipient is staying in a lodge or rental for the ski season, give the property name, their full name and their stay dates, and add a phone number.
