Oxford Hospital (Tawera Hōhipera)

Oxford Hospital at 39 Park Avenue is a Health NZ facility offering aged care, end-of-life care and urgent or short-term respite care by referral; it has no emergency department. There is no facility-specific flower rule. The former Canterbury DHB has advised that flowers are not possible in some hospital areas and asked people to check first, so check with the ward before sending.

For someone receiving end-of-life care, a small, gently scented arrangement – or flowers sent to the family at home – is often the kindest choice.

Alden Karadean Court

Alden Karadean Court at 5 Queen Street provides aged residential care. For a resident, choose a compact arrangement already in a vase, and include the resident's full name. If the person is unwell, call the home first. Our guide to hay fever and flowers suggests lower-pollen options for shared rooms.

Oxford's cemeteries

Oxford Public Cemetery on Oxford Road has full burial, double-depth and ashes plots; the first recorded entry in its cemetery book is dated 9 October 1874. West Oxford Cemetery is on the left just before Oxford when coming from Cust on the Rangiora road, and holds the war grave of one Commonwealth serviceman from the First World War.

For a funeral, send flowers to the funeral director or the venue – Oxford has several churches, including Oxford Union Church (Presbyterian), Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oxford Baptist Church and an Anglican church – with the full name of the person who has died and the date and time of the service. Our funeral flower etiquette guide helps with wording.

Show day, dark skies and weather

The Oxford A&P Show is held at the Oxford Showgrounds, 28 Bay Road; the Association's first show was in 1906. Nearby, the 11,350-ha Oxford Forest Conservation Area was designated New Zealand's second International Dark Sky Park in 2024. The climate is warm and temperate; snow in town is rare, but the surrounding hills get snow every year. As Oxford is a 2 km linear town, give the full street number and add a phone number so the florist can find the right place. For rural properties, include the RD number.
