Garden Marlborough: early November

Garden Marlborough is the town's garden festival, with garden tours, workshops, a garden party and a Sunday fête of more than 250 stalls. In 2026 it runs from 5 to 8 November. If you know someone hosting a garden, running a stall or simply going along with friends, flowers that week fit the occasion well.

Year round, Pollard Park is a large public park with rose gardens, native shrubbery and children's play areas, and Seymour Square in the town centre holds the War Memorial and Clock Tower, unveiled in 1928.

Wairau Hospital and flowers

Wairau Hospital is Blenheim's public hospital. The former Nelson Marlborough DHB has advised that patients who are immunocompromised, in isolation, or in the ICU, HDU, IMCU or SCBU (special care baby unit) areas should not receive flowers. Flowers have generally been fine on other wards, but the current Health New Zealand page does not mention flowers, so check with the ward before sending.

On the order, include the patient's full name and ward. If the patient is a newborn in special care, flowers to the parents' home are the better choice.

Sun by day, frost by night

Blenheim's sunshine is great for vineyards, but cut flowers do best out of direct sun. In winter, frost can damage flowers left outside overnight. Two simple steps help:

  • add the recipient's phone number so the florist can hand the flowers over rather than leave them on a doorstep;
  • for vineyard and rural addresses, use the RD number exactly as the recipient writes it, and allow extra time.
