Wairarapa Hospital in Masterton has a history of welcoming flowers. The former Wairarapa DHB has stated that its Meet & Greet volunteers help with things like wayfinding and delivering flowers, and that volunteer "Flower Ladies" create floral arrangements and tend to patients' flowers between September and May.
That information comes from an archived page, and the current Health New Zealand page does not mention flowers. Rules can also differ in some units, so if the patient is very unwell, check with the ward first. Put the patient's full name and ward on the order.
Masterton summers can climb above 30 °C, while winters bring frequent frosts and nights below 0 °C. Both extremes are hard on cut flowers left outside.
See our flower care guide for more.
Queen Elizabeth Park sits beside the Waipoua River with gardens, a lake and a miniature railway. It was renamed after Queen Elizabeth II's visit in 1954 and is named among New Zealand's Green Flag-accredited green spaces. For a local who loves an afternoon in the park, a garden-style bouquet is a natural pick.
Masterton is the home of the annual Golden Shears sheep-shearing competition. If someone you know is competing, volunteering or hosting visitors that week, flowers or a plant make a thoughtful congratulations or thank-you. Check the competition dates with the organisers before you order.
For a funeral in Masterton, send flowers to the funeral director or service venue and include the full name of the person who has died and the date of the service. Our funeral flower etiquette guide covers what to write. Sending further south in the Wairarapa? See our page for Featherston.
Put the recipient’s ward, room or the funeral director’s name on the order so the florist can find them.
