Order flowersTe Tairāwhiti, the Gisborne region, is one of New Zealand's smaller regions, with about 52,700 people (Stats NZ estimate, June 2025). It is a unitary authority, and most people live in the city of Gisborne, Tūranganui-a-Kiwa, which is said to be the first city in the world to see the sun each day. If you are sending outside the city, it helps to know a little about rural addresses before you order.

The city is home to about 38,100 people. Our Gisborne flower delivery page covers the city in more detail, including local ideas for birthdays, sympathy and thank-you flowers.
Gisborne Botanical Gardens, set aside in 1874, is the city's oldest reserve. It covers 5.1 hectares between Aberdeen Road and the Taruheru River and includes Australian, Japanese and cactus gardens.
About 23 km from the city, Eastwoodhill Arboretum covers 135 hectares with over 4,000 taxa of trees, shrubs and climbers. In spring it has a hectare of daffodils, plus flowering cherries, magnolias and azaleas. If the person you are sending to loves that season, a spring bouquet with daffodils or blossom can be a nice nod to it. Our guide to what is in season shows which flowers are easiest to find each month.
About 92 percent of burials and ash interments in Gisborne take place at Taruheru Cemetery, so it is the most likely final resting place for a Gisborne funeral. When sending sympathy flowers, address them to the family's home or the funeral director rather than the cemetery itself. Our guide to funeral and sympathy flowers in NZ covers wording and timing, and tangihanga explains what to bring and write when the farewell is held on a marae.
Rural addresses in New Zealand use "RD" plus a number where a suburb would normally appear, followed by the mailtown and postcode. The mailtown is where the delivery round is based, not necessarily where the property is, so use the address exactly as the recipient writes it.
Since January 2024, rural addresses in national address data have also carried a "major name" after the locality; the RD number and postcode stay the same. Rural addresses can take longer, and weekend delivery is limited in many areas, so order early in the week and include a phone number for the recipient.
Busy days book out early, so order ahead.
