Flowers for Murchison Hospital and Health Centre
Murchison Aged Residential Care Hospital and Health Centre, at 58 Hotham Street in Murchison, Tasman, combines an aged residential care hospital with a GP clinic and after-hours urgent care. For families living away from Murchison, flowers are an easy way to stay close to a resident. Here is what we found about sending them.

- Name and ward on the card
- Local florists deliver the flowers

The former Nelson Marlborough DHB district-wide visiting policy (archived Dec 2023) says immunocompromised or isolated patients (and ICU/HDU/IMCU/SCBU patients) should not receive flowers. No facility-specific rule; check with staff whether the patient may receive flowers.
“Gifts, Flowers and Personal items Personal items such as books, pens, and toiletries can be brought in but must not be shared with other patients, whānau or staff. Patients who are immunocompromised, in isolation or in our ICU/HDU/IMCU/SCBU areas should not receive flowers.”
What the district has said
The centre has no flower rule of its own. The former Nelson Marlborough DHB's district-wide visiting policy, as archived in December 2023, has stated: "Patients who are immunocompromised, in isolation or in our ICU/HDU/IMCU/SCBU areas should not receive flowers."
For residents in aged care, the parts about isolation and weakened immune systems are the ones that may matter. Check with the ward before sending, and ask whether flowers are fine for the person you have in mind. Phone 03 523 1120.
Visiting hours in Murchison
Health NZ does not list visiting hours for the centre. The archived district policy, which still had COVID-era wording, gave 2:30pm to 8pm for Nelson Marlborough facilities, but please phone to confirm rather than relying on it.
Ordering for Murchison
- Use the resident's full name and the address, 58 Hotham Street, Murchison.
- Order early in the day and early in the week if you can; weekend and public-holiday delivery is limited in many areas.
- If the flowers are going to a rural home, include the RD number, as rural addresses can take longer.
Flowers that suit aged care
A small arrangement in its own container is easier for residents and staff than a loose bunch. Keep the scent gentle and choose flowers that last; our guide on making flowers last has tips you can pass on to family who visit. Personal items such as books and toiletries were also allowed under the old policy, as long as they were not shared.
Nearby
For towns across the district, see our Tasman region page. If the resident is transferred, Nelson Hospital follows the same old district policy.
What the centre does
Health NZ lists three main services at the Hotham Street site: a GP clinic, an aged residential care facility, and after-hours and urgent medical care. The centre also has emergency response capability. It is a small rural base rather than an acute hospital, and there is no emergency department on site.
Opening hours and emergencies
The centre's open hours are 8:30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. For a life-threatening emergency dial 111. For non-emergency urgent care, call 03 523 1120. Nelson Hospital, which has a 24-hour emergency department, is 90 minutes away.
Before you travel or send
The main line is 03 523 1120. Health NZ does not publish visiting hours, parking details or a gift policy for the aged residential care facility, so phone before you travel or send anything for a resident.
