Flowers for Dunstan Hospital in Clyde
Dunstan Hospital, at 29 Hospital Street in Clyde, serves Central Otago and the Wānaka area. It is run by Central Otago Health Services Ltd, a community-owned, not-for-profit company formed in 1999. Its flower guidance is one of the friendliest and clearest we have found.

Flowers are welcome, but avoid lilies and strongly scented arrangements.
“Visitors are welcome to bring flowers, but please avoid lilies and strongly scented arrangements, as these can cause allergic reactions for some patients and staff.”
Yes to flowers, no to lilies
The hospital's visitor page says: "Visitors are welcome to bring flowers, but please avoid lilies and strongly scented arrangements, as these can cause allergic reactions for some patients and staff."
When you order, ask the florist to leave out lilies and to keep the scent light. Good choices include unscented or lightly scented flowers and simple greenery.
The reason given is a practical one: allergic reactions affect both patients and staff, and a ward is a shared space. Writing "no lilies, light scent please" in the order notes is the easiest way to make sure the florist knows. A compact arrangement in its own container also saves staff from hunting for a vase.
Inside the Vincent Ward
The Vincent Ward has 24 acute care beds, including a three-bed High Dependency Unit. Its name pays homage to Vincent Pyke, a notable 19th-century figure in Central Otago's history. If the patient is in high dependency, ask the nurses whether flowers are suitable before sending.

Ordering for Central Otago
Give the florist the patient's full name, "Vincent Ward" if you know that is where they are, and the Hospital Street address in Clyde. For deliveries to homes, see our pages for Alexandra, Cromwell and Wānaka. Rural addresses with an RD number can take longer.
Our guide to hay fever season and sending flowers has more ideas for low-scent, low-pollen bouquets.
Finding the entrance
Free public parking is available on the hospital grounds, with accessible spaces near the entrances. Visitors use the Vincent Ward entrance. Red signs mark the rear entrance for the After Hours GP Service, which runs from 6pm to 8am.
